Toppa the mornin’ to ya! Nothing says spring is coming like drunk idiots in green t-shirts throwing beers bottle into the sewer drain in front of your house. Ahhh the smell of pale ale in the morning… Sigh… If you’re not interested in imbibing in the typical green beverages of the season, a Mint Chocolate Green Smoothie is an even better reason to celebrate!

I’m so happy to be back on my morning smoothie game. Don’t get me wrong, I love me some overnight oats. But there’s just nothing as filling, satisfying, easy, and delicious as a good smoothie!   In honor of spring coming, I switched it up from my typical smoothie and went with something [a little] more green!

With all of the warm weather we’ve been having loving, I was totally inspired to throw some fresh herbs into a smoothie. And because I didn’t think “cilantro cappuccino” sounded appealing, I went with mint! And chocolate. Always chocolate.

Making this smoothie was a fine line between nice and green and baby poop brown… Is the hunter-greenish-brownish color of this shake too off-putting?? Don’t be freaked out. What’s really freaky is the toxic dye added to beers this time of year to give them their radioactive glow. Blech!

This smoothie is a serious pot of gold! With tons of nutrients, a creamy texture, and some seriously minty, chocolaty flavor, you’ll think you found a four-leaf clover! I [lepre-]can’t even handle these St. Paddy puns anymore…

Mint Chocolate Green Smoothie

A Mint Chocolate Green Smoothie will make your tummy feel like a pot of gold and tastes like you've hit the four-leaf clover jackpot! It's your lucky day!

Ingredients

  • 1½ frozen banana
  • 1 serving chocolate protein powder (I use Aloha)
  • 1 Tbs. cacao powder
  • 6-8 large mint leaves
  • 1 large pitted date (or splash of sweetener, optional)
  • 1 cup spinach, packed
  • 1 tsp. spirulina (optional)
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • Cacao nibs, for topping

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients to a blender and blend for a few minutes, to thoroughly break down the date. Pour into a glass, top with cacao nibs, enjoy!
